Federal Reserve leaves stimulus intact

The Federal Reserve will keep its massive economic stimulus program intact, officials said Wednesday, as they wait for more proof that the nation’s recovery is gaining strength.

The central bank has been pumping $85 billion a month into the economy in hopes of lowering long-term interest rates and encouraging consumers and businesses to open their wallets. Fed officials had hoped that the effort would have spurred stronger job growth and faster economic expansion by now. But the labor market remains sluggish while political gridlock in Washington has threatened the recovery’s momentum.

85 billion dollars a month is no mere bag of shells, but then of course if you are the Federal Reserve, all you have to do is print more money.  Now just out of curiosity I was just wondering how they would ever get that money back, besides digging into the bottomless well known as the public's pocket.  You realize that every time they print up another stack of Federal Reserve Notes, the money in your pocket is worth less. not to speak of your savings and retirement accounts.  This has been going on for about five years now and things still aren't very good.  When you combine what the Fed is doing with runaway government spending, you got to wonder: How long can this go on?
