I was talking to Bascomb the other day, and I always try to listen to old folks when they talk, since they have been around long enough to have learned a few things. Here are a few gems from old Bascomb.
LIFE'S SECRETS
There is no magic to success in life, but there are ways to achieve success which have been proven over time.
HONESTY - All men respect honesty, even those who are dishonest respect one who is. When you are honest, you like yourself, which is one of the keys to success.
GOALS - Having goals helps establish the boundaries of your life. Trying to reach what you want is part of knowing what you want. Many times the journey is more rewarding than the destination, but getting there is important.
WORK - Anything worth having is worth working for, and usually the work itself is rewarding.
WEALTH - The accumulation of wealth is always less important than love of God, family, friends, and yourself. It is however, necessary in the world we live in, just don't let the acquisition of wealth become more important than love.
TIME - Time is the least understood of all of life's secrets, and we usually only understand time when we are too old to use it wisely. Time heals wounds and brings us riches if we use it wisely. When you are young time is your friend, but when you are old it becomes your enemy.
As old Bascomb would say..."Now that's just the way I see it, and you can tell'em I said so."
(Bascomb's favorite quote: "The more men I meet, the better I like my dog.")
